They will practise their reaction times, aim, and accuracy against targets that resemble people to prepare for the real world. With our help, take your training to a new level.

 

Application Description 

The Oculus and Unity-created VR programme is intended to instruct army commanders in shooting drill scenarios. Cadets participate in training exercises where their main actions involve picking up virtual weaponry and firing at human-shaped targets in this immersive virtual world. Their preparedness for events in real life is improved by the application's assessment of their response times and accuracy in responding to imminent dangers. The Function of the Application

By acting as a link between the virtual and real worlds, the application takes use of the dual nature of the virtual interface. Cadets engage with virtual weaponry and targets that resemble people in the virtual environment, replicating real-world behaviours like drawing a gun and firing it. Due to this duality, cadets can practise shooting in a situation that is both secure and realistic..

The application's importance resides in its capacity to successfully prepare incoming cadets for outside threats. It improves their ability to react in high-stress conditions by simulating urgent threats and testing response speeds and accuracy. The tool teaches cadets to respond fast and effectively, which could help save lives and increase mission success rates overall.

Technology related to virtual reality (VR) is crucial in the context of this application. It offers a three-dimensional, immersive training environment that closely resembles real-world situations. The importance of VR is as follows:

 

  • Realism: VR delivers a realistic training environment that closely resembles real-world combat situations.
  • Safety: VR creates a controlled, realistic environment while removing the risks involved with training with live ammunition.
  • Development of Skills: VR enables accurate and frequent practise, allowing cadets to create muscle memory for handling firearms.
  • Evaluation: VR monitors and assesses cadet performance, offering useful information for development.

Interaction Design

Because they mimic actual behaviours related to handling firearms, interactions are essential in this application. Users should:

 

  • Pick up and Handle weaponry: Users can reach out and physically grab virtual weaponry, simulating the process of taking up a weapon in real life.
  • Aim And Fire: Users can simulate shooting by aiming the simulated gun and pulling the trigger.
  • Recover from Loss: If a cadet loses their virtual gun, they must do it right away in order to start firing again.

 

Storyboard: Using accurate hand-tracking controls, cadets interact with a virtual table while wearing Oculus headsets and picking up a weapon. They engage in realistic scenarios with human-shaped targets in order to enhance response speeds and shooting accuracy. They aim, fire, and swiftly recover lost weapons.

 

Development of Technology

  • Specific Interface Technology Used: The programme was created with Unity3D and is compatible with Oculus VR headsets.
  • Engaging with Available Interaction(s): Users interact with the available interactions by wearing the Oculus VR headset and utilising the Oculus Touch controllers to physically interact with computer-generated guns and targets holding the firearm and pulling the trigger with the trigger finger

3D model descriptions

 

  • Virtual Handgun: For training purposes, the military uses this 3D replica of a standard-issue handgun. Its function is to act as the cadets' main weapon while they are in training.
  • Virtual Human-Shaped Target (Enhanced Version): These 3D models now show accurate human-shaped targets that have been set up inside the virtual shooting range. They act as targets for shooting practise and accuracy testing in situations where cadets must react quickly to attacks. They simulate human adversaries. The improved version will offer a more realistic training environment, concentrating on human targets to increase accuracy and reaction times.
  • Virtual Table with Gun (3D Model): This 3D model of a virtual table with a gun depicts a table within a virtual shooting range. The virtual firearm is safely positioned on the table, which acts as a platform. To give cadets a defined area to take up the handgun, the table is placed strategically within the training setting.
